Expecting a Baby and a Windfall: How Kind Wealth Steered Jaden & Amaya to Safe Shores

Jaden and Amaya approached us just a few months before the birth of their first child. Jaden was considering incorporating his expanding medical practice, and both were curious about the preparations and implications of Jaden’s impending inheritance from his parent’s family trust.

In their early 30s, both were at the onset of their careers. Amaya was gearing up for maternity leave from her tech sales position while Jaden’s family medicine practice was thriving.

Amaya was uncertain about returning to her sales role post-maternity leave and was unsure about managing the stock options she had acquired from her employer—a tech firm that had recently secured another round of private equity financing.

Jaden was leaning towards incorporating his medical practice but sought clarity on the optimal structure for minimizing liability and maximizing tax efficiency.

Furthermore, both were expecting a significant inheritance from Jaden’s family trust in the near future. To prepare, Jaden and his siblings were being educated about their father’s businesses and the family’s financial landscape.

While Jaden was raised in affluence, Amaya’s upbringing was different. She grappled with feelings of guilt and anxiety about managing the anticipated wealth and its potential impact on their future children.

Our Role in Their Story

Our initial step was to delve into Jaden and Amaya’s perspectives, beliefs, and behaviours surrounding money. This exploration helped us, especially Jaden, better comprehend Amaya’s apprehensions about the forthcoming inheritance.

Subsequently, we crafted a financial plan that illustrated their prospective financial scenario, both with and without the expected inheritance. This plan also highlighted strategies to maximize their accumulating wealth.

To ensure comprehensive support, we assisted Jaden and Amaya in assembling a team of adept professionals, including a new accountant (given their dissatisfaction with the current one), an insurance broker, a corporate lawyer, and an investment manager. After briefing this team on Jaden and Amaya’s financial blueprint, we established a routine for periodic consultations.

In collaboration with Jaden’s new accountant and lawyer, we implemented a Holding Company and Operating Company structure complemented by a Family Trust.

Thanks to our collective efforts, Amaya and Jaden were able to welcome their baby without financial concerns. They both felt reassured, knowing they had a robust financial strategy and a cohesive team of professionals dedicated to their best interests.
